Water
The beauty of water never ceases to astound us. We wish we could all live near a lake, the ocean, seas, creeks, rivers or ponds. We play in it, boat on it, drink it, bathe with it. We need a constant water source to survive. God knew that, so He created it. We need to care for it, that's our job, along with enjoying it as He intended.
It is so deep, so soothing, so colorful. We skate on it when frozen, take ice plunges in mid winter for health, we steam in it to detox, we boil it to cook and purify. We sit in hot springs for our health and relaxation. We freeze it for cold drinks and healing compresses on a sprained ankle.
So, water it is. In any form, in any place. Enjoy it as you like. You may be on the beach, in a lighthouse, on a boat, on skis, floating in a balloon or parachute over the top, standing in the rain as it falls, scuba diving, or in a cabin looking at it from a grand view.
Enjoy the scenes I loved to paint of WATER. They are for everyone. For memories. To pass on.
Land
Land, open spaces, beauty as far as they eye can see! Land encompasses so much of creation. On it, our lives thrive. We grow food, flowers, trees and all kinds of life giving vegetation. We can destroy it with chemicals, or build it up and watch it give back. I choose to do the latter.
It is a gift to us as is water and air. I thank God for it. On the land we call earth, we can cultivate tremendous beauty, even in the deserts. As I look about me here in the United States, and abroad to other parts of the world, the diversity is tremendous!
I have to hike it, bike it, drive it and just stare in awe at it. My camera has to be with me at all times. As I see how light and dark is needed to portray objects, to give them definition and shape, I am so glad that our Creator designed the sunshine and the moon to encircle us and give us light and shadow.
The way the sun casts shadows, gives paintings depth. Beauty. Pathos. Color is also vibrating light. Break apart light and you get a rainbow. Perfect. Incredible!
Land equals flowers in abundance, of all shapes and hues. Grass. Trees of all kinds. Fruit. Vegetables. Mountains. Hills. Valleys. Canyons.
Yes, Buildings. Man made structures that grow up out of the earth, so it seems. Without land, we could have no buildings.
This Portfolio portrays all the good I can find on the Land we so love and need. Everything that has inspired me, minus all the millions of more paintings I want to capture.
Landscapes. A necessary form of art. Choose your favorite. Hang it pretty.
Still
Art by nature is calm. It is still. But still life art goes beyond that. It sort of talks to you and says, "Look at me!"
"No, come closer, really look at me! I won't yell at you. I just want to be your friend. Trust me to relate to you."
We all need a sense of place, a sense of space that we call our own. A place of peace, where we can get in touch with who we are and whom we are created to be in this, our present life and situation.
When our beautiful earth was created, all was peace and beauty and rest. God even gave us a special day to be Still, to rest, to trust, to relate. He created this earth in 6 days. On the 7th day, He asked us to rest, to trust, to relate to Him.
A day to discover, to replenish, to come away from all our cares. Why not take advantage of that. Why not take the time to listen, to learn. To see all the beauty we can possibly see. To continue to learn to see...
These paintings are meant to capture you. Hang them in the perfect place.
Barns and Farms
Barns and Farms are a major part of our heritage. They are deeply ingrained and buried into my brain cells. As a child, living at my grandmas home, there was a barn across the road. Us kids would spend hours playing in the hay, swinging from the big rope, and building forts. The old goat and pony would mow the grass and weeds down near the barn as they grew fat around the belly.
Rags, our dog would scare up rats and cats and chase them far away. That dog could run fast! Oh yes! He's long ago passed on to doggy heaven, but he was part of those barn and farm days.
All I Have left of that old barn are fond memories and a small piece of barn wood. I cherish both.
Paintings are a great way to preserve our heritage and memories. As we capture the nature and mood of the old barns and homes that accompanied the farms, we can relive in our minds so many fond thoughts of long ago. Tell some stories.
If you did not have the privilege of playing in a barn, imagine. Hang one up in your home and imagine childhood all over again!
